On Monday, 10 June 2024, at 19:00, at the Municipal Library of Komotini (Tsanakleio Mansion), Dr. Olena Palko, Assistant Professor of History at the University of Basel (Switzerland), will give a lecture entitled:
“The Greeks in Ukraine during the Early Soviet Era.”
Dr. Palko is a historian whose research focuses on the political and cultural history of Ukraine and Eastern Europe in the twentieth century. Her work examines national borders, ethnic minorities, and identity politics in the Soviet Union. She has received international recognition for her book Making Ukraine Soviet: Literature and Cultural Politics under Lenin and Stalin.
The event will be introduced by Dr. Vasilis Ritzaleos, historian and member of the Special Teaching Staff at the Department of Language, Literature and Culture of the Black Sea Countries, Democritus University of Thrace. It will be moderated by Nikos Kosmidis, PhD candidate in Architecture (DUTH) and coordinator of the project Actions for History, Memory and Culture.
The lecture is part of an educational visit to Northern Greece by undergraduate and postgraduate History students from the University of Basel, focusing on population exchanges in twentieth-century Europe.
